Solutions Site & Plant
Aquidata Excel has been delivering intelligent industrial systems for oil and
gas production platforms, animal feed mills, gas receiving terminals and providing
the services to support them for over fifteen years.
The detail on this page describes some application areas where our solutions
for site have been successfully applied...
Data Historian systems integrate the "islands"
of information within your plant to make the combined data set readily
available to engineers and management both at their desk top and also
through wider corporate production reporting and planning systems that
integrate with the historian.
On brown-field sites we have seen savings equivalent to the cost of the
whole project implementation realised within the first six months of operation.
This is achieved simply by staff having the tools to do a better job and
then working smarter - we regard this is a tremendous return on your investment.
Having this data online and being delivered in real time means your decision
makers can control multiple assets from a common location that is often
remote from the operations site. Typical hard benefits that accrue are
:-
- efficient resource utilisation
- reduced critical decision times
- improved efficiency for the business
In addition
it has been our experience that customers commonly see many positive soft
benefits that improve staff moral, for example improved communication
between teams and an enhanced sense of ownership by your personnel.
Aquidata Excel has been delivering effective Data Historian systems
for the last 10 years. Initially using our own technology and more recently
commercially available products from OSIsoft and Matrikon (i.e. PI and
ProcessNet).
By combining the wealth of our own expertise in the design and delivery
of Data Historian solutions we deliver:-
- efficient project rollout
- excellent focused engineering / IT skills
- huge added value to add on applications

How do you diagnose problems where timing across a range of systems
is critical, did the pump trip on a transitory high pressure or was it
actually a faulty instrument somewhere else in the plant?
T he
modern control system will give your operational staff the tools they need
to diagnose general process problems, tune individual loops and controllers
but to monitor several systems concurrently and capture the pertinent signals
needed with millisecond precision you need a flexible high speed data logger.
Our systems provide the ability to interface a range of analogue and
digital inputs and set up trigger conditions with simple configuration
logic to capture a time series data set from just before an incident occurs
and for a configurable period afterwards. Multiple event data sets can
be captured concurrently and retained on the system for management analysis
via Web tools. |
| With an increased focus on being able to prove safe operation of plant
an increasing burden is falling on management to demonstrate effective
reporting procedures are in place but because of practical time constraints
this can sometimes be impossible to achieve.
Ch ecking
the status of the tens of thousands of tags in a modern control system
every twelve hours for being inhibited illustrates the point, it is impractical,
however inhibits being in place means that the automated systems which
are intended to protect the plant and personnel from unsafe operation
can not do their job.
A solution Aquidata Excel has delivered for one customer solves this
problem. The software scans the control system for inhibits automatically
recording them as they are placed and removed.
Our software then summarise the inhibits status as reports showing at
a glance how long inhibits have been in place, in what plant areas and
their significance.
Implementation of the system has allowed our customer to reduce the number
of required inhibits to a "handful" that can be applied for the duration
of a managed work period then removed again. |
| Mass is the only measure that allows us to quantify flow
through a plant and accurately compare inputs with
outputs as the pressure and temperature regimes change.
Accurate information about flow through a process is of fundamental importance
to it's cost-effective management and efficient use of the flows, especially
at the point when losses may be occurring.
During the course of the data collection, measurement and process problems can be identified and solutions found.
In addition for large, geographically distributed plants mass balance techniques can be also be used to detect potentially catastrophic leaks in real-time and give control room staff warning of a failure, leaks and potential explosion.

|
| As part of the constant drive to reduce operational costs
there is increasing pressure on staff to become multi-skilled thereby
reducing the time available to perform maintenance and management tasks.
By providing intuitive software tools we can simplify and automate metering
management tasks allowing users to work efficiently, diagnose problems
faster and automatically record their work activities.
Typical applications include:- |
- Online Activity LogBook
- Proof Validation
- K-Factor prediction
|
|
|
|
| |
| All database solutions supplied by Aquidata Excel provide
an open architecture making it simple to interface a variety of specialist
third party products for metering management. |
|
| We have delivered several Mill Control and information
systems, the largest being for Scotts Mills in Omagh Northern Ireland.
This project demonstrated the diverse capabilities of our basic software
toolset and skills within the company because the system provided complete
ERP functionality which includes:- |
- Batch Tracking
- Formulations Management
- Audit Trail
- Product Scheduling
- Plant Route Optimisation
- Real Time View
- Stock Balance Reconciliation
- Bulk Delivery Management (bins & weighbridge)
- Bag Labeling Instruction
|
|
 |
| |
| In addition the mill supervisory linked with other plant
management systems to exchange data in real time, notably:-
|
- Stock & Customer Order Management
- Product Formulations
Using our supervisory solution the mill management were able to automate
many of the statutory reports that they have to issue, i.e. for drug tracking
from delivery all the way through to the delivered batches. |
Aquidata Excel has extensive experience of automating the
reporting process for plant and production installations all over the
world.
Delivered projects include:-
|
- ConocoPhillips : Judy platform for all J-Block assets
- Lundin Britain : Heather Alpha production platform
- INA Croatia : Rijeka refinery and tanker berth terminal
- Talisman : Claymore A, Piper B and Saltire A platforms
- Total : Elgin Franklin platform
Our Production Reporting systems maximise automation of the data acquisition
and content validation enabling users to focus on real operational issues
at one of the busiest times of the day.
Typically data reported will include production, safety, stock levels,
capital equipment status, well usage, reservoir well test data and loss
reports. |
|
In areas where reserves are in decline operators are actively seeking to extend the life of existing production infrastructure by bringing in new oil or gas reservoirs.
Wherever this is happening for example the North Sea and even some areas of the Middle East like Sharjah and Dubai, the value of co-mingled products being produced has to be apportioned and attributed fairly to their owners.
To avoid the cost and disruption of adding individual separation and measurement facilities it is often possible to reuse the existing plant and then by improving the instrumentation, model in software how the different input products will change as they are let down through the process.
|
|
To achieve this Aquidata Excel has built process models around standard packages like PRODE (h.p.) within our on-line systems. PRODE (f.a.q.) is a Thermo-Physical Properties generator that provides a thermodynamic framework for calculating the properties (equilibrium, transport etcetera) of pure components and mixtures.
|
|
 |
|
The results of these calculations can be used to drive a 1st pass allocation and then refined again by more sophisticated calculation offline.
|
| To manage a reservoir effectively the engineering group need to know
how each well in the formation is performing and also how this relates
to it's
past history.
Good well test data facilitates timely decisions about when to workover
or re-drill a well, maximise usage of artificial lift resources resulting
in maximum recoveries and usage of production capacity.
Also as demonstrated by our recent solution for Lundin Britain commercial
product attribution can be based upon results of well tests in the right
circumstances saving significant measurement equipment cost and the overhead
of it's maintenance.
Traditionally data is generated by routing a well through a dedicated
three phase flow measurement separator vessel to acquire performance data
at different process conditions.
Aquidata Excel have standard applications for both control of well test
data acquisition, definition of the stable well test period and then historical
management of the reservoir well test record.
We have delivered Well Test data management systems for the following
projects:- |
- ConocoPhillips : Judy platform for all Judy and Jade wells
- Lundin Britain : Heather platform for all Heather wells
- Talisman : Claymore A, Piper B and Saltire A platforms
- Total : Elgin Franklin platform
- PetroCanada : Guillemot & Clapham fields
